Mastercard

Mastercard is the second-largest corporation in payment handeling worldwide. Their beautiful headquarter is located in the state of New York. Its main business is processing payments between consumers and the card-issuing banks or credit unions of the buyers who use the Mastercard brand debit, credit and prepaid cards to make purchases. Mastercard has been listed on the stock exchange since 2006.

Mastercard was created by an alliance of several regional bank card associations in response to the BankAmericard issued by Bank of America, which later became Visa.
Prior to its IPO, Mastercard Worldwide was a cooperative owned by the more than 25,000 financial institutions that issue its branded cards.

In 1966 several commercial banks decided to set up the Interbank Card Association (ICA). That was a success. 3 years later, the name Master Charge was introduced and the logo was given two intersecting circles. What the current logo looks like. As early as 1979, the name was definitively changed to Mastercard.

In 2002, Mastercard merged with major Europay, with whom it had collaborated for several years. Until 2003, Mastercard worked in Europe under the lesser-known
Eurocard.
